Frequently Asked Questions
1. WHAT IS MICROSHADING?
Ombre Powder Brows, Soft Shading or Soft Ombre Brows - is a newer and improved technique of eyebrow micropigmentation that can create soft powders for the most natural and customized eyebrow look that enhances your face shape.
This method has been around for over a decade and is performed using a digital or cosmetic machine using a single needle to deposit pigment on to the epidermis. This procedure is all on surface work, resulting in a soft and powdery "almost make up filled" healed eyebrow look.
2. Microshading VS Microblading?
Microshading is done by using pigment and a tattoo machine to create pixels on the upper layers of the skin.
Microblading uses a hand- tool that creates hair like cuts into the skin. Overtime the repeated incisions into the same spot can cause trauma and create scar tissue.
Microshading is:

4. IS BROW PERMANENT MAKEUP ARTISTRY (MICROBLADING, OR MICROSHADING) SAFE?
Yes. When the service is done by adhering to the proper sanitation and sterilization standards, it is safe. In addition, as long as you do not have a pre-existing condition that would not qualify you to get the procedure, the procedure is safe for you.
5. WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
It's not worth risking your health to save a few bucks when it comes to Brow Enhancement Permanent Makeup. It is very important to consider skill and standards on top of cost when selecting your artist. Brooke Savage Beauty cuts no costs and uses all disposable tools, the best pigments and pride ourselves on a clean facility. We are committed to being a leader when it comes to health and safety. You, our client’s and prospective clients alike, deserve the best and that is our promise to you.
6. WILL THE PROCEDURE HURT?
While some people feel no discomfort at all, others may find the procedure a little uncomfortable. Topical anesthetics are used prior to and throughout the treatment in order to alleviate any discomfort. During the outline process is the only time clients experience a pain level of 1-3 out of 10 that takes about 3 minutes to do. The numbing gel is reapplied multiple times throughout the procedure so that you remain numb.
7. HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
Procedure time varies depending on the area of application and how much work needs to be done. The average procedure will take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours (for areas needing more work, when pigment absorption is not as fast as desired). When you come in for your touchup appointment in approximately 4-6 weeks, this touch-up procedure lasts about 1 hour.
8. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS DURING OR AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Eyebrows may show minor side effects, such as swelling. Some people swell more from minor skin infractions than others. During the procedure there may be some minor bleeding. This again, is client specific. Bruising is rare but if a person is on blood thinners, bruising could occur. If bruising occurs, typically it is minor and subsides in a few days. There is usually some tenderness for a few days.
9. WHAT ARE TOUCH-UP APPOINTMENTS?
Permanent makeup (PMU) is a 2-step procedure. The touch-up appointment is considered to be the second visit. It is performed 4-6 weeks after the original procedure. The touch-up is necessary for perfecting and improving upon the results from the initial application. The touch up after the initial session is recommended, but not required.
About 70% of the ink will retain on the skin after the treated area has healed. Therefore, we highly recommend booking a touch up appointment to ensure great results. On the rare occasion, a client may need a third session due to having a skin type that is more resistant to the implantation of pigment or from incorrect aftercare and will be charged accordingly.
Touch ups are not included and are priced at certain time frames.
We cannot guarantee 100% successful result on our clients. Your outcome depends on your skin condition, any previous tattoos, the amount of hair you have, your brow muscles and your brow bones. Everyone is different. There are no refunds, as we have carried out the service.
10. What does the process look like?
When you arrive, you will complete paperwork and discuss your ideal brow style, color, shape; as well as set realistic goals and expectations to create what you envision.
Next, we will assess your brows, noticing any muscle pulls or areas of asymmetry. Our goal when microshading is to balance out your eyebrows to create two beautiful symmetrical brows!
After that, we will remove any excess hair around the brow and on the outline that we will be creating. Using a string method to map out your eyebrows, we will create a shape that best compliments your face and style. Prior to beginning the microshading procedure, I will hand you a mirror to ensure that your brows are where you want them to be!
Lastly, let the shading begin!
11. WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD LIKE?
Immediately following a procedure, there will be mild swelling, redness, or tenderness that lasts a few hours to a few days (eyebrows swell less than eyes and lips). There may also be slight bruising. The color looks much darker immediately afterward for any procedure. It will lighten 30-50% after the healing is complete. The final result can be seen not sooner than 4-6 weeks. You will be given an after care bag with day to day recovery information and care.
13. WHAT WILL THE FINAL COLOR LOOK LIKE?
Colors will always look 30-50% darker and more intense immediately after the procedure, and then lighten and soften upon healing.
14. HOW LONG WILL PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?
Permanent makeup may last many years, however, the average longevity varies between 1 to 3 years. The longevity of color depends on a person’s age, skin type and condition, aftercare treatment, sun, and other external factors. It is recommended that clients return for a color refresher procedure every 12-18 months.
15. DO I HAVE TO SHAVE MY EYEBROWS BEFORE Microshading?
You do not have shave off your eyebrows before your brow procedure; in fact, we can blend the hair to make it look even more natural. If you have black brows and want a lighter color or vice versa, we recommend getting them tinted to the color you prefer before your appointment, so we can color match to that. You can remove the hair if you'd prefer.
16. I HAVE NO EYEBROW HAIR. AM I STILL CONSIDERED A CANDIDATE FOR BROW SERVICES?
Many clients have no hair from over plucking or medical reasons. We will design your eyebrows based on your specific bone structure and eye placement, so having hair or lack there is not as an issue at all. In fact, this service is tailor made for candidates like you!
